Lei Tingjie is a Chinese grandmaster who won a national championship in 2017 ahead of the women’s world champion at the time, GM Tan Zhongyi. The same year, Lei scored 8/9 points on the fourth board for the Chinese women’s team in the World Team Chess Championship, where they earned silver. Lei also won silver at the 2017 Women’s World Rapid Chess Championship.

Lei clinched victory in the 2021 Women's Grand Swiss with a round still to play in the tournament. On April 3, 2023, she won the 2022/23 FIDE Women's Candidates, earning the right to face GM Ju Wenjun in the World Championship from July 5-25, 2023. She lost the match, but as the finalist also qualified for the next Candidates Tournament in 2024.
