Greene King staff may join the club if you wish, but we do not currently have any new events planned. If future planned events require an "entry fee" your membership may be revoked between events to ease administration.

Although no new events are currently planned, we have an ongoing tournament ...

The 1st Macmillian Fundraiser Event

Tournament Details

We raised £72.50 for Macmillan and will be awarding £42.50 in prizes as follows:

  • 1st Place: £25.00
  • 2nd Place: £12.50
  • 3rd Place: 5.00

The tournament is a Chess.com "Daily" Tournament, using all-play-all group stages, with six players in each group, to whittle down the entries. There will be as many group stages as necessary to reach a final group of six players. All your games in the group will begin at the same time, but because it's a "Daily" tournament, you don't need to be online at the same time as your opponents. When each one makes their move, you'll have three days to make your response, though you can move sooner if you wish to ... if you take more than three days, you'll forfeit the game by "timeout". This format gives lots of flexibility, but means we can't be sure when the tournament will end, though we're likely to have a good indication pretty soon after the tournament begins.

A Note on Cheating
Cheating will not be tolerated. Cheating involves getting "outside assistance" of any kind, and especially using the help of a chess engine (a chess computer program). Chess.com has an advanced cheat detection algorithm and their rulings will be considered final. To allow Chess.com time to analyse our games, prizes will not be distributed until a week after the end of the tournament. No-one whose account has been closed for cheating (or indeed for other kinds of dubious conduct) will be eligible for prizes.

If you suspect your opponent of cheating, you can ask Chess.com to investigate by reporting your opponent to their "fair play" team. For more information about what constitutes cheating and how it's handled on Chess.com visit this page.
